ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Church-wide prayer & fasting Mon, 3/23

Prayer and Fasting
This Monday, March 23, we are inviting all Broward Church members to pray and fast. Although many
of us are staying at home to slow the spread of CoVid-19, praying Christians encounter no “social
distancing” from the Lord when we come to Him in prayer!
Isaiah 58 details what true fasting means. Clearly, God is not interested in bargaining or manipulation –
“If you fast from this, I will give you that,” see Isaiah 58: 3. It’s not clear exactly how we should fast, but
the scriptures tell us that there is a kind of fasting God has chosen (Isaiah 58: 6). It is concerned with the
needy, the weak and the poor.
In Matthew 6:16, Jesus does not say “If you fast,” but “When you fast.” He assumed fasting would be a
part of our life as his followers. When we fast, we set aside something that is good (eating, for example)
for something that is better, a deeper desire for the heart of God.
Prayer and Fasting Helps
 The early church collectively prayed and fasted. Consider calling someone and praying together
on the phone, or pray together as a household. Invite your friends to pray and fast with us on
March 23.
 Read and meditate on Isaiah 58 to better understand true fasting.
 Pray specifically for the three things Tony mentioned in the midweek lesson: Our world, that we
can meet together as a church by Easter, and that Broward Church would meet our budget.

We want to continue reaching our community and church members during this time. If you are able, please continue giving to the church online by using the link provided.

How can you VOLUNTEER during this time? Maybe you can help an elderly neighbor with their groceries, offer to look after a friend’s child if they have to work, make a meal for a family in need, or simply share some toilet paper!

Find out if friends or fellow Community Group members are able to access Sunday service, midweeks and other online resources. You can offer to help or get help for those who are having difficulty. Sign-up as a volunteer through the survey provided above.

Dear Parents,

From beginning to end, the Bible tells the stories of people who faced unprecedented challenges and walked through uncharted territory. These stories can inspire our faith in these uncertain times. The CO-VID-19 virus presents us with a new normal – school closing, working from home and social distancing are part of our current landscape.

Schedule, predictability, and routine help all children thrive. That’s why the Broward Church is working hard to give all of our members resources and different avenues to establish familiarity and connection. One resource we want to continue to provide is access to weekly Eureka! lessons on Realm. You will see a Leaders Guide which is the teacher’s “lesson plan” and a Discovery Guide which will be your child’s worksheet. Parents can use the Leaders Guide to navigate through the lesson. There are question prompts, activities and a Bible story on your worksheet. As you work alongside your child(ren), they will work through and fill out their Discovery Guide. Because of the way Eureka! is structured, all ages will have the same Bible story and memory verses. This Bible story is repeated twice a week. That means that the lesson you do as a family on Sunday will be repeated on Wednesday. We love this because it allows extra time to grasp a story before moving on to the next Bible story. We encourage all families to use this during family time in the coming weeks.

Some things to keep in mind:

There will be some resources you will not have access to from your Leaders Guide. For example, all lessons start with a fun story with characters from your child(ren) age group. You will pass that portion of the lesson and move on to the next section.

Eureka! is split into 3 age groups; Toddlers/Preschool/Kindergarten, Younger Elementary (1st & 2nd grade), and Older. Elementary (3rd-5th grade). If you have children in multiple grades I suggest using Younger Elementary as your Leaders Guide and giving your child their appropriate aged Discovery Guide. They are easily adaptable since the material and content are the same.

Have fun! Eureka! is all about allowing each child to discover God, and have their own Eureka! moment.

Got a question?

Here’s What We Are Doing as a Church Staff

Praying. Every day we praying for the intervention of God on this matter. We believe that God is sovereign meaning that He is not surprised by this pandemic and has a plan in mind for recovery from it. We are praying for His wisdom, guidance, and healing.

Staying Informed. We are staying up-to-date on how COVID-19 is affecting our city, state, country, and world. Through credible sources, like the CDC, we are able to stay informed on how best to prevent the spread of this virus and using best practices at BC.

Providing Resources. We believe that the local church is a beacon of light in the world. It is our responsibility to get in the trenches to help in this time of trouble. We will continue to provide a weekly experience for you and your family to engage in a Broward Church service. We are also looking for ways to help out in our local community to help those in need.

Here’s What You Can Do to Help

Pray. Pray for our community and those directly affected by COVID-19. Pray for the health care workers who are treating the sick and those in leadership making difficult decisions. Pray that God would protect our community from further spread of the virus.

Be generous. While our world is anxiously protecting themselves, let’s live like Jesus and be generous during this time. Buy someone else’s groceries, give a neighbor some toilet paper, give sacrificially. We can still be generous during this time because we know who is our provider, Our God.

Practice personal hygiene. Wash your hands frequently, stay home if you are sick, and cover your coughs or sneezes with a tissue.
